SAY YES! AGAIN AND AGAIN
Say Yes! again and again explores topics of identity and gender . Three performers from Cyprus, Greece and Holland, through physicality and linguistic forms, share personal experiences that shaped them as persons to explore social norms, queer subjectivities and normative pressures.
“Say yes! Again and again and again: our personal decisions in the here and now of the stage
by Georgina Kakoudakis
Which of our memories can be retrieved and re-enacted? Which experiences have defined us? What stereotypical behaviours have we resisted? How is memory described on our bodies? And what does the body allow us to remember? Through a series of recollections of memory, the stage is filled with confessions of what one may have experienced from childhood to the current state of who they are! The revelations, through trauma, prohibition, exclusion, guilt, hesitation, rebellion, and the recollection of the tenderness of youth, emerge as powerful narratives that slowly reveal how we have become our current selves through stories that make up a positive acknowledgement of life. Romantic love, sexual identity, personal liberation from social imperatives, alternate as landmarks on the “confessions stage”: memories in a bus, in the pages of a magazine, on a bike ride, in a student room in Germany, at a children’s party, on the road of “social” struggles, or unseen in our minds. A journey of coming of age, with the aim of “honouring” a process that led us to an activism of pleasure, sexual or other, to a social liberation, and to the deepening of the personal narrative of ourselves: of a self that is present, dynamic and agile, in a present of reflection, with acceptance and affirmation in life, in the “Yeses” we can say again and again to ourselves, to our desires, to our needs, and to the new and unexpected realities that arise…”
